When it comes to embracing life and letting go of the past, Jon Bon Jovi is leading by example. The rock icon recently sat down with Celia Walden of The Telegraph and opened up about his journey through life, his marriage, and even his thoughts on fellow celebrity Mark Wahlberg. In his signature laid-back yet insightful style, Jon shared some wisdom that resonates with fans and peers alike.
Embracing the Journey: Aging Gracefully
Jon Bon Jovi isn’t one to dwell on the past. Instead, he’s all about living in the moment and embracing the natural progression of life. "We’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got," he reflected, echoing a sentiment familiar to his fans. But for Jon, it’s not about holding on to the glory days—it’s about creating new ones. He explained, "Who is living the better life? Mark Wahlberg or the guy I was just sipping wine with in a little village outside of Narbonne? I think about that a lot. I’m certainly living life fully. In fact, I must have been living life really fully on the day Marky wrote about his sit-ups on social media, which was why I didn’t even take the time to read it."

Gray Hair and Beyond: Jon’s Style Evolution
For Jon, aging gracefully means embracing his natural gray hair. "Yup, I’m the guy who embraced going gray! There are a lot of gentlemen out there whose names I won’t mention—and none of them have truly embraced the real them, have they?" he shared with a laugh. But don’t expect to see him in tight leather pants anytime soon. "Oh, I was done with leather pants at 30," Jon admitted. "The only man who can pull off leather trousers at any age is Mick Jagger. But he’s the exception to that rule because he’s the greatest of them all."

Jon made it clear that he left the rockstar clichés behind as he matured. "I remember saying, 'The day I turn 50 and I’m still writing 'b—ch' on my belly and painting my fingernails black, I’m quitting,'" he recalled. "Equally, the day I’m not doing this in the style to which I’m accustomed, I’m quitting. So yes, I’ll embrace the gray hair—but I won’t become fat Elvis."
And Jon is content with this life, especially with his wife Dorothea Hurley by his side, a relationship that has lasted nearly three decades.

Marriage: The Foundation of Stability
Jon attributes much of his success and happiness to his long-lasting marriage. "We got together in high school, so she’s seen every iteration, every page in the book since the beginning," he said fondly. "There’s no need to explain what the process is because she’s been here since before there was a process. And actually, I’ll tell you what—our wedding anniversary is the same as Prince William’s!"
Back on the Road: Renewed Energy
Despite stepping away from the spotlight for a few years, Jon is back with renewed vigor. His album This House Is Not For Sale marked a triumphant return after a three-year hiatus, a period he described as a "living hell." "I certainly wasn’t depressed. No, I just had to deal with a lot," he explained. "But I got through it. And came out the other side, it seems, with renewed vigor. Honestly, I’ve never worked so hard at being great as I have in the last three years. I’ve had thousands of lessons and worked diligently at being the best I can be."
So here’s the takeaway: no matter where you are in life, it’s never too late to live your best life. Just look at how Jon Bon Jovi is doing it—embracing change, staying true to himself, and cherishing the people who matter most.
