When it comes to professional dancing, Lindsay Arnold knows a thing or two about what makes a great partner. Since joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars in 2013, she’s shared the dance floor with some incredible celebrities. While not all of them have walked away with the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, Lindsay emphasizes one key quality she values above all else: work ethic. And guess what? Her Season 27 partner, the legendary DeMarcus Ware, nails it.
Lindsay Arnold's Perfect Partner
In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Lindsay opened up about her experience with DeMarcus Ware, the former NFL linebacker who’s proving that determination can take you a long way. At just 24 years old, Lindsay couldn't be happier with her 36-year-old partner. “His determination to improve as a dancer is honestly everything I could ever ask for as a coach,” she said, her admiration for DeMarcus shining through.

Season 27: A Blast From the Start
When Lindsay spoke to Closer Weekly, she was still buzzing from the excitement of the season. Just days after narrowly avoiding elimination in Week 5, she reflected on what makes this season so special. “This season has been so much fun,” she said, her enthusiasm palpable. Hailing from Provo, UT, Lindsay noted that DeMarcus is one of the most positive people she’s ever met. “He’s probably the happiest person at all times,” she added, which is no small feat when you’re competing on DWTS. After all, dancing under the spotlight can be tough, especially for someone who isn’t naturally a dancer. Yet, DeMarcus shows up with a grin and refuses to let anything bring him down.

But it’s not just his positivity that sets him apart. Lindsay explained that DeMarcus is unlike any partner she’s ever had. “He shows up with the biggest smile on his face, and he never lets himself get defeated,” she said. That kind of attitude goes a long way in the world of competitive dancing.
DeMarcus’s Injury: A Test of Grit
Mid-season, Lindsay faced a challenge when DeMarcus dislocated his finger. For a moment, the duo wondered how this might affect their performance. But Lindsay was quick to dismiss any concerns. “Honestly no, because DeMarcus is so freakin’ tough,” she said with a laugh. She explained that if she had been paired with anyone else, the choreography would have likely needed to be simplified. But DeMarcus? He’s not one to back down. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone bounce back like that and just act like nothing ever happened. It definitely didn’t feel good to him, but he wasn’t going to let anything keep him from doing what I was going to ask of him. I really, really admired that.”

What Makes a Great Partner?
Lindsay, who won the Mirror Ball Trophy in Season 25 with actor Jordan Fisher, knows what it takes to succeed on DWTS. She revealed that DeMarcus’s hard work is crucial, especially since he entered the competition with zero dance experience. “All I ask is that you give it everything you’ve got, and I’ll do my best to make sure that you look good,” she told Closer Weekly. For Lindsay, it’s not about the skills you bring to the table—it’s about the effort. “I feel like that’s the key to a great partnership right there,” she said.

Chasing the Mirror Ball Trophy
Since her victory in Season 25, Lindsay has been eager to reclaim her title. “I would love to get that for me and DeMarcus, and I feel that it would be very special this season,” she said. She acknowledged that some celebrities have a natural rhythm, but DeMarcus isn’t one of them. “He has to work his butt off every week to make it to the next round,” she admitted. Yet, she believes in his potential. “He’s really, really grown as a dancer. This was something that was totally out of his comfort zone, and to see him go in all the way to the end and possibly winning this thing, that would be a dream come true for me,” she added.
