It feels like we’ve been holding our breath for what feels like ages, waiting to see how 'The Conners' will handle life without Roseanne Barr at the helm. Well, ABC has finally dropped the first official trailer, and let me tell you, it’s packed with fresh footage that gives us a pretty clear answer: the show is still going to be laugh-out-loud funny. Thanks to the impeccable timing and delivery of the cast, especially Sara Gilbert and Laurie Metcalf (though John Goodman doesn’t have dialogue in this one, you know he’s bringing his A-game), the trailer really captures the essence of a family that, after dealing with a profound loss, has no choice but to pull together and keep moving forward. It’s heartwarming, raw, and hilarious all at once.

As we inch closer to the Oct. 16 premiere of 'The Conners,' it’s a great time to revisit some of ABC’s earlier teaser trailers for the series. The first three gave us quick peeks into the iconic family home—outside, the living room, and the kitchen. The fourth one (watch it below) starts with a blank screen, followed by character names and quick snippets of dialogue from last season’s episodes of 'Roseanne.' It wraps up with the same question that’s been lingering in all the others: “What’s Next?”
What’s Next? A Growing Question
This question has taken on new significance. It started as a simple curiosity about how the show would write Roseanne’s character out of the picture. But then, John Goodman revealed that Roseanne’s character would have passed away between the end of 'Roseanne' and the start of 'The Conners.' That revelation sparked a whole new level of debate when Roseanne herself announced in an interview that her character had succumbed to an opioid overdose. Needless to say, this idea hasn’t sat well with a lot of fans. Roseanne herself even weighed in, saying, “It wasn’t enough to fire me; they had to so cruelly insult the people who loved that family and that show.”

Proving the Show Can Still Stand Tall
Now, the challenge falls squarely on the shoulders of the cast and writers to show that 'The Conners' can thrive in this new chapter. Part of that means giving us promos that feature real clips from this season, showing the Conner family dealing with their loss in their signature humorous and heartfelt way. We need to get a real taste of what the show will be like as it ventures into uncharted territory. Thankfully, the latest trailer gives us a glimpse of that, and it’s clear that the Conner family spirit is alive and well.
