Whew, thank goodness that's over! Leah Remini and Jada Pinkett Smith have been at odds since last year, but now these two powerhouse actresses have finally found common ground and made peace. Let's take a closer look at how they got here and why it matters.
What Happened Between These Two Powerhouses?
Let me set the stage for you. Back in September of last year, Leah Remini made some comments during an interview with The Daily Beast that sparked a whole lot of drama. She claimed that Jada Pinkett Smith was a Scientologist. Now, as you might imagine, that didn’t sit well with Jada, who quickly took to Twitter to clarify her stance. She explained that while she appreciated certain aspects of Dianetics and Study Tech, which were developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, she wasn’t actually a Scientologist. Instead, she emphasized that she practices human kindness and believes everyone has the right to define themselves.
Leah’s Journey Away From Scientology
Leah Remini’s story is no secret. In 2013, after being part of the Church of Scientology for 35 years, she decided to leave. Since then, she’s become a vocal advocate about her experiences, sharing her journey through her memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology and her A&E documentary series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. Her decision wasn’t easy. She spent years questioning the church’s belief system and was subjected to intense interrogations and even blacklisted from the church and its members. Ultimately, her young daughter played a pivotal role in her decision. As Leah once told BuzzFeed, “In my house, it’s family first — but I was spending most of my time at the church. So, I was saying ‘family first,’ but I wasn’t showing that. I didn’t like the message that sent my daughter.”

A Moment of Connection
When Jada Pinkett Smith sat down with Leah Remini to discuss their differences, it turned into a powerful moment of connection. Jada revealed that what struck her most was realizing both women had been deeply affected by their absent fathers, turning them into fighters who sometimes clashed. But once they opened up and shared their stories, it became a beautiful moment of healing. As Jada told People in a recent interview, “What was really emotional about it was realizing that there were two broken little girls in us that were abandoned by their fathers and turned into fighters who clashed. It was really beautiful and she reached out to me. She was much bigger than me in that way. It was nice to reconnect and release ourselves from all that nonsense that doesn’t matter.”
Lessons Learned
This whole situation taught Jada an important lesson about kindness and compassion. “You have to treat people with kindness because you don’t know what they’re going through,” she shared. “When she told me her story, I had so much more compassion and it reiterated the necessity to just be gentle and kind because we’re all f***ing devastated.”
