Megyn Kelly's Controversy: Could Kelly Clarkson Be Her Replacement On 'Today'?

Let’s face it, folks. Things have taken a sharp turn for Megyn Kelly after her recent comments about blackface. Earlier this week, during a segment on the Today show, Megyn expressed confusion over why wearing blackface was considered racist. Now, whispers of her potential firing are swirling around, and here’s the kicker: NBC might already have a replacement in mind. And guess who it is? None other than Kelly Clarkson!

Here’s the scoop: The network is reportedly considering adding The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson to the Today morning show lineup. According to a source who spoke with Radar on Thursday, Oct. 25, NBC executives think it might be the perfect time to give Kelly Clarkson her own spot on Today. They believe her massive fan base and relatable personality could be just what the show needs right now.

Why Kelly Clarkson? The Inside Story

While Megyn Kelly, 47, hasn’t exactly been the easiest colleague to work with, the Today team absolutely loves Kelly Clarkson. The source revealed that Kelly was even on set just a couple of weeks ago on Oct. 11, performing for the International Day of the Girl. "[Kelly] is a huge part of the NBC family," the source said. And it seems the feeling is mutual. People close to the situation claim that Kelly has already been approached about joining the show, and she's reportedly warming up to the idea.

  • Insiders say that Kelly Clarkson is a great fit because she's seen as non-controversial and down-to-earth. "[She's] willing to take on any job thrown her way," said another source. NBC executives view Kelly as a perfect choice because she's known for being unbiased and genuinely kind. "Kelly is the most non-biased person on the planet, and does not have an ounce of racism in her," an insider added.

    The Blackface Controversy: What Happened?

It all started on Oct. 23 during a segment on the Today show where Megyn was discussing controversial Halloween costumes with guest co-hosts Melissa Rivers, Jenna Bush Hager, and NBC News correspondent Jacob Soboroff. Megyn repeatedly stated that she didn’t think it was inherently racist for a white person to wear blackface on Halloween, as long as they were emulating a character. She even referenced Luann de Lesseps dressing up as Diana Ross, to which Jacob responded, "I haven't seen it, but it sounds pretty racist to me."

Viewers were not having it. The backlash was swift and intense, leading Megyn to issue a tearful apology the following day. Unfortunately, it seems her apology may have come too late. Her show won't air for the remainder of the week, and reports suggest she'll be speaking with a lawyer to negotiate her exit from Today.
