Let me tell you a story about a man who faced one of the scariest moments of his life and lived to tell the tale. Montel Williams, the beloved TV personality and former Navy officer, recently spoke out about his harrowing hospitalization earlier this year. In a candid interview, Montel revealed that he spent an intense 21 days in the hospital, with nine of those days in the ICU, after suffering a life-threatening hemorrhagic stroke. At 62 years old, Montel is no stranger to health challenges, but this one really hit close to home.
In addition to battling multiple sclerosis for years, Montel now has another chapter in his health journey to share. Speaking to The Blast, he admitted that he’s incredibly grateful to be alive, noting that he "almost died" during this ordeal. It all started during what seemed like a routine workout session in a New York City hotel back in late May. As he performed his usual dumbbell squats, Montel heard a loud "pop" on the left side of his body, and from there, things spiraled out of control.

What Happened That Fateful Day?
Montel recounted the terrifying moment when he realized something was seriously wrong. "I looked up, and everything turned into a kaleidoscope," he said. "I knew something was majorly wrong, so I forced myself to get to my room on the 14th floor and called my wife, Tara Fowler. I told her that I may be having a stroke, so please call 911." Luckily, Tara acted quickly, and within minutes, a specialized emergency team arrived to assess the situation. They were even able to perform a CAT scan right there on the scene. That swift action likely saved Montel's life.
Support from His Beloved Wife
Montel's third wife, Tara Fowler, has been his rock through it all. The couple, who tied the knot in 2007, remained steadfast during his hospital stay. "I give all the credit to my wife," Montel gushed. "She laid on the bed with me for all 21 days, sleeping at the hospital and staying there for 18 hours a day. The only thing I remember for the first five days in the ICU is her saying, 'I love you.'" Their unwavering love and commitment to each other truly shine through in this difficult time.

A Wake-Up Call for Montel
Despite the frightening experience, Montel sees this as a valuable lesson in life. He admitted that the stroke was "a wake-up call to go 100 percent, instead of the 300 percent I was working at." It's clear that Montel is taking this opportunity to reassess his priorities and focus on what truly matters. We're so relieved to hear that he's on the road to recovery and grateful for his incredible journey of resilience.
