Porter wrote on the charity’s website, “It was quite magical for us to see the pleasure it gave the children and the families to meet the Duke at the Birmingham hospice opened by his mother 30 years ago. What a fantastic 30th anniversary present for everyone at Acorns.”
Adding to the emotional moment, Kay Alexander, the hospice’s president, paid tribute to Princess Diana during her speech. Alexander admitted she was “going to get tearful” while talking about Diana, to which Prince William humorously replied, “Don’t, you’ll start me off as well.” Despite the emotional weight, Alexander noted how wonderful it was for William to take the time to visit and connect with everyone. “The fact that he can come around like that and just chat to anyone is the biggest, best thing that could happen to those parents.
