Rod Stewart's Secret Prostate Cancer Scare: The Inside Story

Let me tell you a story about Rod Stewart—a man who's not just a legend in music but also someone who's faced life's challenges with courage. Back in 2016, Rod experienced a prostate cancer scare that only a few people knew about. But guess what? This rock 'n' roll icon decided to keep it quiet, sharing the news only with his closest family and friends. Rod, who's now 73, is no stranger to health battles. He's already fought and won against thyroid cancer back in 2000. Thankfully, this time around, it turned out to be just a scare, as reported by the Sun on Sunday.

Rod's Prostate Health Journey

Here's the scoop: Rod had been feeling unusually tired, but like most of us, he didn't think much of it. However, during a routine medical check-up, doctors discovered that his prostate was enlarged—a finding that came as a major shock to him and his loved ones. Luckily, the prognosis was excellent, and no surgery was required. A close friend of Rod’s shared with the Sun on Sunday, “Rod had been feeling a bit lethargic but didn’t think there was anything too wrong. But his prostate was found to be enlarged which came as a huge shock. Luckily the prognosis was excellent and didn’t require surgery.”

The Diagnosis and Road to Recovery

In 2016, during a routine screening, doctors found a lump on the prostate of the legendary "Maggie May" singer. Initially, there was concern it might be cancer, but further tests revealed that Rod was dealing with benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition that causes the prostate gland to enlarge. This condition is quite common as men age. While doctors did discuss the possibility of surgery with Rod, it turned out that he didn't need an operation. Instead, he'll need regular check-ups to monitor the condition's progress.

According to a friend, “Rod told those closest to him he had prostate problems but, at the time, didn’t want to make a big fuss. But this scare’s made him even more mindful of his health and now he’s fitter than ever. He feels very lucky.”

Rod's Message to Men Over 50

Thankfully, Rod did not have prostate cancer, and he hopes that his experience serves as a reminder for men over 50 to get tested regularly. Early detection can make all the difference, and Rod wants to encourage everyone to take their health seriously.

Rod has faced health challenges before, including a battle with thyroid cancer in 2000. Back then, he underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his throat, fearing he might never sing again. But, thanks to his determination and the support of his singing coaches, he managed to regain his legendary voice. In an interview with CNN, Rod recalled, “I was frightened, really scared, and all sorts of thoughts were going through my mind. But I had some singing coaches give me some advice, and in the end, it was getting the band together in the garage and just singing every day.”
