Real-Life Drama Behind Grey’s Anatomy’s Fictional Wedding
Alright, folks, let me tell you something that's just too good to be true! Camilla Luddington, the talented actress who played Jo Wilson on Grey’s Anatomy, got married to Justin Chambers’ character, Alex Karev, last season. But here's the twist—her real-life fiancé, Matthew Alan, wasn’t exactly thrilled about it. Can you blame him? I mean, who wouldn’t get a little jealous watching their partner tie the knot with someone else, even if it’s all part of a show?
Camilla, now 34, shared the story in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where she said, “It was weird. I was leaving that morning and he was like, ‘Bye! Good luck with your wedding to someone else.’” She went on to explain how Matthew, who’s also an actor, understands the demands of the job, but it doesn’t mean he didn’t feel a little funny about the whole thing. “It’s very weird, [but] he’s an actor too so he understands,” Camilla added. That's the kind of understanding you need in this business, right?

The Perfect Setting for a Perfectly Fictional Wedding
But here's the funniest part of the whole story. Matthew actually fell in love with the location where the wedding was filmed. “What’s funny is we shot our TV wedding at a place called Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA, and Matt came to visit the set and he stepped on and we were like, ‘Damn!’” Camilla joked. “Because it was so gorgeous and they do weddings there and he was like, ‘We could have done it here, but now you and Alex have taken it!’”
And guess what? They even joked about having their real wedding there. “The whole wedding itself was absolutely gorgeous on Grey’s… I mean, we even joked about, ‘Hey should we just run down the aisle and just quickly say our vows to the actor priest and be done with it?’” Camilla laughed. “It was so gorgeous. There were definitely elements that I kind of wanted to steal for my wedding, but I shall make them both very different.”
Making Sure the Real Wedding Stands Out
Camilla assured everyone that her real wedding won’t feel like a re-run of the TV version. “When we were picking out dresses, I tried to avoid things I wanted in real life,” she explained to ET last month. “Which did work out because I always thought Jo would wear a short wedding dress. So, getting married doesn’t feel in any way spoiled or like I’ve already done it on TV.” Plus, her one-year-old daughter, Hayden, might just be the cutest flower girl ever!
