Television personality Julie Chen is stepping away from The Talk, a decision that closely follows her husband, Les Moonves', resignation from CBS amid sexual misconduct allegations. On September 18, 2018, the 48-year-old appeared in a pre-recorded video segment on the daytime show to deliver a heartfelt goodbye. This marks the end of a nine-year run for Julie as a key figure on the popular program.
Why Is Julie Chen Leaving?
Julie opened up about her reasons for stepping down, reflecting on her journey with the show. "I have been part of The Talk since it first aired nine years ago, and over these years, the cast, crew, and staff have become an extended family to me. But right now, my priorities are shifting. I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son. With that in mind, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave The Talk," Julie explained, her voice filled with emotion.
She continued, "I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at the show for the incredible years we’ve shared together. These memories are something I will always cherish. Most importantly, I want to thank you, our loyal viewers, for letting me into your homes every day. It was a privilege I will forever be thankful for. To everyone behind the scenes, my love goes out to you. I will miss all of you so much," Julie said, her eyes welling up with tears.

Rumors Surrounding Julie’s Departure
Speculation about Julie leaving The Talk began circulating on September 17. An insider revealed to Page Six, “She is definitely leaving The Talk and will absolutely stay with Les. The timing of her departure is unclear—it could happen this week or after Big Brother concludes on September 26. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if CBS asked her not to return.”
Julie has been taking a step back from her role on The Talk to focus on her family after her husband, Les, 68, stepped down from his position as CEO of CBS on September 9. The couple, who tied the knot in 2004, shares an eight-year-old son named Charlie Moonves.

Co-Host Sharon Osbourne Speaks Out
During Julie’s time away from the show, her co-host Sharon Osbourne addressed the sexual misconduct allegations against Les. Sharon candidly stated, “These stories are so eerily similar, the pattern is undeniable. While Les hasn’t been convicted of any crime, it’s clear that the man has a problem.”
When The New Yorker first broke the story about the troubling allegations against Les in July, Julie issued a public statement in support of her husband. “Leslie is a good man, a loving father, devoted husband, and an inspiring corporate leader. He has always been a kind, decent, and moral person. I fully support my husband and stand firmly by his side,” she declared at the time.
