In a recent chat with People, Joanna shared her secrets for balancing it all with charm and grace.
How Joanna Keeps Her Energy Up
Now, you might think that adding a fifth child to their already packed lives would slow them down, but guess what? It did the exact opposite. Joanna, who's now 40, says her youngest, Crew, born in July, has given her an unexpected boost. "He gave me an extra kick in my step," she told People. "It's like this baby woke me up a little bit. Life was cruising along, and then he came in like my second wind." Who would’ve thought that a newborn could give someone so much energy?
A Surprise Pregnancy
In a past interview, Joanna opened up about how unexpected her pregnancy was — and how wonderfully it turned out. "I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, 'Wow, this isn’t me,'" Joanna confessed to People before her son arrived. "Then all of a sudden I realized, 'Hey, I remember this.' When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped. Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, 'We’re pregnant!' He was so excited. We’re both just so excited." It’s always a beautiful moment when life surprises you in the best possible way.

The Excitement of the Gaines Kids
Joanna also shared with Life & Style how thrilled their four other children—Drake, 13, Ella Rose, 11, Duke, 10, and Emmie Kay, 8—were about welcoming a new baby brother. "The best thing about all of this is the excitement that my kids have shown for their new baby brother," she said. Imagine the joy in that household as they prepared for another addition to their already loving family.

Her design book, Homebody: A Guide To Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave, is set to release on Nov. 6, and she’s eager to see how it connects with fans. "I feel like it’s my life’s work," she admitted. "I love the way that I had to learn with trial and error. That’s why I really believe people can do this."
