Let’s talk about an icon. Joni Mitchell, the queen of bohemian soul, has been through more than her fair share of ups and downs over the past few decades. But at 75 years old, she’s proving that age is just a number. Recently, she celebrated this incredible milestone in the best way possible—with a concert dedicated entirely to her legendary career. It’s not every day you get a birthday bash like that, folks!
Tom Hanks, one of the world’s biggest movie stars, was there to celebrate Joni’s big day at the "Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration" event in LA on November 7. He spoke to Closer Weekly about the music icon, saying, “How many great artists can get by with just their first names?” He went on to compare her to other legendary figures like Prince, Elvis Presley, and Cher. “Her music was this big, warm quilt that fit over all of us,” he said, reminding everyone of her timeless hits like "Chelsea Morning," "Woodstock," and "Blue." It’s no wonder why so many people came together to celebrate her life and work.

Tributes Pour In for the Legendary Songwriter
It wasn’t just Tom Hanks who showed up to honor Joni. Other legendary artists, including Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, and even her ex-boyfriend Graham Nash, were there to pay tribute. Nash opened up to Closer, saying, “She’s a brilliant woman that I was in love with and was in love with me. She changed my life.” That’s some serious admiration right there. It’s clear that Joni has left an indelible mark on everyone she’s worked with.

A Journey Through Adversity
Joni’s journey hasn’t always been easy. Back in 2015, she suffered a brain aneurysm that left her in intensive care for a month. At the time, a close friend told Closer that she was “severely impaired” and that it didn’t seem like she’d be released anytime soon. Despite the challenges, Joni’s spirit remained unbroken. Her friend added, “No matter what happened, Joni enjoyed her life and tried to make the most of it.” That kind of resilience is truly inspiring.

A Triumph of Strength and Spirit
Fast forward to last week’s concert, and we saw just how far Joni has come. She joined her guests on stage for a heartfelt rendition of her 1970 hit, “Big Yellow Taxi.” Eric Idle, a longtime friend and member of Monty Python, spoke to Closer, saying, “I’m happy that she’s recovering because she had a really bad time. She’s got such spirit and strength.” It’s moments like these that remind us why we love Joni Mitchell so much. She’s not just a musician; she’s a symbol of perseverance and grace.
