Gisele Bundchen Opens Up About Her Darkest Moments
In her deeply personal memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, Gisele Bundchen pulls back the curtain on her life, revealing struggles that many might find surprising. You'd think a life filled with success, fame, and fortune would be picture-perfect, right? But for Gisele, it wasn't always that way. The supermodel shares in her book that she once found herself in such a dark place, contemplating the unthinkable—suicide—due to relentless panic attacks that seemed to take over her life.
Gisele, now 38, writes with raw honesty about the despair she felt. "I actually had the feeling of, 'If I just jump off my roof, this is going to end, and I never have to worry about this feeling of my world closing in,'" she reveals. It's a heavy confession, but one that shows the depth of her vulnerability and the courage it took to confront these demons.

Facing the Spotlight with Anxiety
Back then, Gisele was at the height of her modeling career, dating the talented Leonardo DiCaprio. But even with all the success, she was grappling with anxiety that came with the spotlight. "I had a wonderful position in my career, I was very close to my family, and I always considered myself a positive person, so I was really beating myself up," she explains. "I felt like I wasn’t allowed to feel bad. But I felt powerless. Your world becomes smaller and smaller, and you can’t breathe, which is the worst feeling I’ve ever had."

Despite the pressure, Gisele chose not to turn to medication during this tough time. "The thought of being dependent on something felt, in my mind, even worse, because I was like, 'What if I lose that [pill]? Then what? Am I going to die?'" she shares. "The only thing I knew was, I needed help."

Gisele took a bold step by making significant lifestyle changes. "I had been smoking cigarettes, drinking a bottle of wine and three mocha frappucinos every day, and I gave up everything in one day," she reveals. "I thought, if this stuff is in any way the cause of this pain in my life, it’s gotta go." She also turned to yoga and meditation, finding solace and strength in these practices.
Life Beyond Perfection
Today, Gisele is one of the highest-paid models in the industry, married to NFL quarterback Tom Brady, and a proud mother of three. Yet, she wants her fans to understand that life isn't always as perfect as it seems from the outside. "Things can be looking perfect on the outside, but you have no idea what’s really going on," she told People in a recent interview. "I felt like maybe it was time to share some of my vulnerabilities, and it made me realize, everything I’ve lived through, I would never change, because I think I am who I am because of those experiences."
