Let me tell you something interesting about Javier Bardem. The Oscar-winning actor, who worked with Woody Allen on the 2008 film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, doesn’t see himself joining the chorus criticizing the director anytime soon. Even though they weren’t close during their collaboration, Javier holds a strong belief that the allegations against Woody Allen are unjust.
Why Javier Bardem Stands By Woody Allen
During a master class at Thierry Fremaux’s Lumiere Festival in Lyon this week, Javier opened up about his thoughts regarding the controversial director. Woody Allen has been accused of sexually abusing his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was just seven years old. Javier, however, isn’t convinced by these accusations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained, “At the time I worked on Vicky Cristina Barcelona, these allegations had been around for over a decade. Moreover, two states in the U.S. officially ruled that Woody Allen was not guilty.”

Javier admitted that during the filming of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, he had minimal interaction with Woody Allen. He even doubted whether Woody was aware of who he was. However, Javier firmly believes that unless the legal system finds Woody guilty, he won’t accept Dylan’s allegations. “If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind,” Javier stated. “But for now, I don’t agree with the public lynching he’s been subjected to.”

Javier Bardem’s Respect for Woody Allen
Despite the controversy, Javier holds immense respect for Woody Allen as an artist. He went on to say, “If Woody Allen called me to work with him again, I’d be there tomorrow morning. He’s a genius.” Javier clearly values Woody’s artistic contributions, showing no hesitation in potentially collaborating with him again.
Public Reaction to Javier Bardem’s Statement
Not everyone was pleased with Javier’s stance. Fans reacted strongly, especially since many Hollywood heavyweights who’ve worked with Woody Allen have expressed regret about their collaborations. One Twitter user commented, “Javier Bardem is disgusting. I’ll NEVER watch any movie with him again.” Another user added, “It definitely seems like we are in the midst of a moral panic.” Yet, there were supporters as well. One commenter highlighted, “Woody has been cleared by legal experts. Adoption agencies also investigated him and gave him two daughters, who now defend him as adults. We Love Javier & Woody!”
