Matt Lauer Believes He'll Make A TV Comeback: What's Next For The Former Today Host?

Matt Lauer's Surprising Confidence in a TV Comeback

When Matt Lauer was abruptly fired from the Today show back in November 2017, many people assumed his career in television was over. But according to a recent report from Page Six, the ousted journalist is convinced he'll be making a return to the small screen sooner or later. Despite the scandal that rocked his professional life, Lauer remains optimistic about his future in the industry.

During a recent encounter, a group of devoted fans approached Lauer, expressing how much they missed seeing him on TV. "We miss you!" they exclaimed. In response, Lauer shared that he's been focused on being a dad, but reassured them, "Don't worry, I'll be back on TV." It's a bold statement, one that shows he's not giving up on his career just yet.

It seems that Matt has been holding onto the belief that if he waits out the current news cycle, the scandal might fade, and he could make a comeback. A source told Entertainment Tonight back in March that Lauer is hopeful about returning to the spotlight, inspired by other public figures who have managed similar comebacks. However, his close friends feel that such a scenario isn't very realistic at this point. Discussions about a public apology have taken place within his team, but for now, they've agreed that staying out of the public eye is the best course of action.

Not everyone shares Matt's optimism about a return to television. His former co-anchors, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, expressed their doubts when speaking with Entertainment Tonight in April. Savannah admitted she had "no idea" if Matt would ever return to the spotlight. She mentioned that he's been focused on his family, which she believes is the right choice. Hoda echoed Savannah's sentiment, saying, "Yeah, I think that is really where his heart is at this moment — his children and just working on that. So, I think that work probably isn’t in the forefront of his mind." It's clear that both women care deeply for Matt, but they recognize the gravity of the situation.
