What It's Really Like Filming An Episode Of House Hunters

Hey there, friends! Ever wondered what it's like behind the scenes of the hit HGTV show House Hunters? Texas-based realtor Leslie Remy recently shared her surprising experience when she agreed to appear on the beloved series. Spoiler alert: it’s nothing like what she expected!

The Reality of Filming on House Hunters

In a candid interview with GuideLive.com, Remy opened up about the nitty-gritty details of filming an episode. “We spent close to eight hours shooting just one house out of the three that the couple will eventually see,” she revealed. That’s right—eight hours! And guess what? That lengthy filming session will likely only translate to about 10 minutes of screen time on the final 30-minute episode. Talk about a marathon of patience!

Repeating Yourself for the Perfect Shot

Remy explained that while the show isn’t scripted, the production crew does ask participants to repeat themselves quite a bit. “The couple shares their genuine thoughts and feelings about the house, but to get that perfect shot, they have to keep repeating their opinions over and over again,” she said. Imagine talking about the same kitchen backsplash for the umpteenth time—it’s got to get a little redundant, right? But hey, that’s showbiz!

  • And let’s not forget about the visuals. Remy mentioned that there were at least four good shots of each room or scene, ensuring every nook and cranny is captured for the audience back home. It’s all about making sure the viewers feel like they’re right there with the couple, exploring each potential dream home.

    Dress Code? Really?

Remy also shared a fun detail about the unexpected dress code for appearing on House Hunters. “They told us to wear solid colors—no prints—and to bring an extra outfit,” she said. Remy came prepared with four extra outfits, only to be told that none of them would work. “I ended up wearing something pretty basic—plain black pants, a blue shirt, and no accessories,” she admitted. So much for fashion statements, huh? But hey, who needs flair when you’re helping a couple find their dream home?

Not Everyone’s Experience is the Same

Interestingly, Remy’s story isn’t the first time a House Hunters participant has spoken out about their experience. In a past interview with Entertainment Weekly, a homebuyer named Bobi Jensen claimed the show was “fake.” According to Jensen, she and her husband had already purchased their house before being selected for the show. The other two homes featured in their episode were actually just friends’ houses that weren’t even listed for sale. Wild, right?

After Jensen’s comments, HGTV quickly issued a statement explaining how their production process works. “We’re creating a television show, so we have to manage certain production and time constraints while still honoring the home-buying process,” the statement explained. “We often work with families who are already well into the home-buying journey
