Property Brothers Share Their Exciting Adventures, Family Plans, And Philanthropy

You know those people who never lose the spark of their childhood? Well, Drew and Jonathan Scott, the Property Brothers from HGTV, are exactly that. “As kids, we were always cooking up some kind of scheme,” Jonathan tells Closer. “Like, ‘Hey, this neighbor needs a doghouse—let’s fix that!’ or ‘Wait! We can make the best lemonade stand ever!’”

Fast forward a few decades, and these brothers, now 40, are still as ambitious as ever. Not only do they head five HGTV shows, but they've also just launched their first children's book, Builder Brothers: Big Plans. It’s a project that feels like a natural extension of who they’ve always been. “Everything in the book is inspired by our childhood,” Jonathan says with a smile.

Recapturing Childhood Adventures in Their New Book

This picture book is all about sparking the imaginations of kids under 10. It’s full of fun, quirky stories that take readers back to the Scott brothers’ early days. “There are so many little adventures from our childhood that we’re excited to weave into future books,” Drew shares. “The underlying message is all about teamwork. Two heads really are better than one. Solving problems together is way more fun—and effective—than going it alone.”

It’s clear that collaboration is a value the Scott brothers hold dear. Drew even applies this philosophy to his family life. He’s married to Linda Phan, and they’re looking forward to expanding their family soon. “We definitely want kids,” Drew told Us Weekly. “And we’d love to have twins. Growing up, Jonathan and I were high-energy, but we were also built-in best friends. Linda and I think that’s a pretty sweet deal.”

Building a Family and Being the Best Uncle Ever

The couple isn’t in any rush, though, and with their packed schedules, that’s probably a good thing. But when they do have kids, Jonathan is confident Drew will be an amazing dad, and Linda will be an incredible mom. “Oh, and I’ll be the coolest uncle,” Jonathan insists. “I’m a magician, so that’s a bonus. Plus, I’m basically at the same maturity level as most kids, so I get them!”

Jonathan’s playful personality has many people wondering why he isn’t married yet or thinking about starting a family of his own. “Right now, I’m focused on improving myself, doing the things I enjoy, and being the third wheel for Drew and Linda,” he admits. But his friends—and their moms—are always trying to set him up. “They think they know the perfect person for me, but I don’t need blind dates. And let me tell you, I’ve turned down The Bachelor three times because that would be my worst nightmare. I’m an old-school guy. If you’ve got a good sense of humor, love sushi, and enjoy movies, we might just hit it off.”

Giving Back Through Work and Philanthropy

Both brothers are content to focus on their work and giving back to the community. Drew, for example, turned his honeymoon into an extended family affair in Ecuador, working with WE, an organization that helps build communities and educates small towns. “Jonathan and I always try to give back to causes we’re passionate about,” Drew explains.

That’s why the Builder Brothers book tour kicks off with a major renovation project for the Boys & Girls Club in Harlem. “We’re here to give back while we’re on this Earth,” Drew says with conviction.
